Press Release | 10/08/26

ALEXANDRIA (October 7, 2026) — This week, Fairstead, a leading national real estate company committed to creating, preserving and improving high-quality affordable housing, celebrated the topping out of the $120 million Samuel Madden Homes redevelopment project in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Created in partnership with Harkins, the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) and The Communities Group, the six-story, 295,000-square-foot mixed-use project will feature 207 affordable housing residences reserved for families earning between 30% and 80% of the Area Median Income.

Fairstead, its project partners and local officials gathered to celebrate the topping out milestone, which marked the completion of the building’s structural framework and continued progress on the redevelopment. The event featured remarks from project stakeholders, followed by guided rooftop tours.

Planned for completion in 2027, the project will also include community gathering spaces, a brand new neighborhood food hub operated by ALIVE! and other amenities designed to support residents and the broader Alexandria community.
